Kahite
Rich Culture
Kahite is the newest of the Tellico Village neighborhoods. It sits on an 850-acre peninsula in Tellico Lake. Tellico is a prevalent Cherokee place name, the meaning of which, according to James Mooney’s Myths of the Cherokee and Sacred Formulas of the Cherokees, has been lost. But it is quiet prominent across East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Tellico Village, in a salute to the rich Indian culture of the region has given each of their neighborhoods and most of their streets Native American names.
New Villagers Club
Kahite, also a Cherokee place name is said to mean, “run them off” in Cherokee. But have no fear, no one in this friendly, inclusive neighborhood is looking to run anyone off, in fact – just the opposite. One of the prominent social organizations throughout Tellico Village is the “New Villagers Club” created to promote friendship and introduce newcomers to the activities of the Village.
The Links at Kahite
And one of those activities is the Links at Kahite, which was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new private courses soon after it was completed. If you play it you might want to take your club stretcher for the 808-yard par 6 number nine.
